Recap: SMU vs. UC Santa Barbara
Dallas, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Keith Frazier paced five teammates in double figures with 20 points, as the SMU Mustangs held off the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos in overtime, 80-73, in non-conference action at Moody Coliseum.
Yanick Moreira scored 15 points for SMU (6-3), which has won four in a row. Ryan Manuel had 12 points, Ben Moore tallied 11 points and eight rebounds and Cannen Cunningham registered a double-double off the bench with 10 points and 10 boards.
For UCSB (4-4), Michael Bryson logged 25 points and 10 rebounds, Gabe Vincent scored 15 points on 5-of-10 from 3-point range and Zalmico Harmon dished out eight assists.
SMU controlled the first half by outshooting UCSB from the field, 44 percent to 32.1 percent. The home team carried a 38-29 lead into intermission.
The Mustangs' lead grew to 14 early in the second half but the Gauchos climbed back into the game with an 18-3 run. UCSB faced a five-point deficit with under 30 seconds remaining before T.J. Taylor drained a 3-pointer. After a 1- of-2 trip to the foul line for SMU, the Gauchos tied the game with 10 seconds left on a Vincent 3-pointer. The Mustangs missed their final shot of regulation, and the game went to overtime.
In the extra session, SMU pulled away with an 8-0 run.
SMU shot 28-of-36 from the free-throw line, while UCSB was just 15-of-19.
