SMU Mustangs VS. South Florida Bulls

South Florida (6-7) at SMU (9-3)

GAME NOTES: Looking to keep a seven-game win streak alive, the SMU Mustangs will entertain the South Florida Bulls as each program opens up American Athletic Conference play at Moody Coliseum.

South Florida has lost six of its last seven games entering this matchup with SMU, which has dropped the Bulls back to 6-7 on the season. They've struggled on the road to a 1-3 mark so far.

That's all good news for SMU, which is 8-1 at Moody Coliseum and 9-3 overall on the season. The only trip the Mustangs took away from Dallas in their last nine games was to Ann Arbor to face Michigan, which SMU won, 62-51.

The all-time series between South Florida and SMU is all knotted up at three games apiece. The two sides split the season series last year, and SMU owns a 2-1 mark all-time in Dallas.

USF has been on a real downturn lately, which was highlighted by a 79-70 loss to Bowling Green at home on Sunday afternoon. The Bulls allowed the Falcons to overcome a three-point halftime deficit to earn the nine-point victory on USF's home court. The Bulls didn't perform badly, however, as they connected on 50 percent of their shots from the floor in the contest, and made 16-of-23 from the free-throw line. Chris Perry tallied a double-double for USF, netting 21 points with 11 rebounds after shooting 9-of-10 from the field. Anthony Collins chipped in with 20 points and six assists, and Corey Allen Jr. came off the bench to add 17 points with five helpers.

Allen and Perry are the top two scorers for USF this season. Allen leads the team netting 16.9 ppg, and Perry chips in with 12.8 ppg. Collins (9.8 ppg) and Nehemias Morillo (9.6 ppg) are on the cusp of the double-digit scoring average. Collins leads the team with 78 assists on the year, and Perry owns a team-best 7.5 rpg mark. The Bulls are scoring 69.7 ppg as a unit, but are allowing opponents to net a hefty 70.9 ppg on 41.8 percent shooting.

It wasn't the prettiest offensive performance for SMU in the team's last outing against Midwestern State, as the Mustangs outlasted the Division II program, 70-61. SMU shot just 38.3 percent from the floor, and held a lead only as big as nine at the end of the game. Nic Moore netted 23 points to pace SMU, connecting on 8-of-20 shooting from the floor. Keith Frazier added 14 points, and Ben Moore tallied a double-double of 10 points and a team-best 13 rebounds. Yanick Moreira could taste a triple-double, as he finished with nine points, nine rebounds and nine blocked shots.

The Mustangs enter the clash with South Florida scoring 70.5 ppg this season on 47.6 percent shooting, but the team's scoring defense has held up much better than the Bulls' at 61.7 ppg. Nic Moore leads the team in scoring coming into Wednesday's contest, averaging 15.4 ppg. Moreira adds in 12.6 ppg, and Frazier chips in 11.2 ppg for the Mustangs. Ben Moore and Moreira each own a 6.8 rpg mark, which is the highest total on the team.

South Florida is simply headed in the wrong direction, and it comes at a pretty poor time with conference play starting. The Bulls can make a statement with a road win over the streaking Mustangs Wednesday, but at home SMU is simply just too strong and too good defensively for USF.

Predicted Outcome
