Edwardsville, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Isaiah McCray notched a double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds, as the IUPU-Fort Wayne Mastodons edged out the SIU Edwardsville Cougars, 74-71, in a non-conference bout at the Vadalabene Center.

McCray shot 8-of-11 from the field, including 3-of-3 from 3-point range for the Mastodons (2-0), and he also contributed six assists. Joe Edwards and Steve Forbes added 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Donivine Stewart tallied a game-high 24 points to lead the Cougars (1-1), although he shot just 10-of-25 from the floor. Kris Davis and Keaton Jackson helped out with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

The Mastodons shot 44.4 percent from the field in the opening half, while the home team hit 38.7 percent. At halftime, the visitors were up, 37-32.

In the second half, the Cougars improved to shoot 45.7 percent from the floor, while the Mastodons stayed the same at 44.4 percent. The hosts tied the game at 59 with 6:15 left to play on a McCray tip-in. Less than a minute later, however, the Mastodons pulled ahead for good with an Edwards' layup. Stewart drained a 3-pointer as time expired, but it was only enough to pull the Cougars within three.

The Mastodons helped secure the win at the line, where they sank 19-of-28. SIUE, meanwhile, was 10-of-13 at the stripe.
