Recap: San Jose St vs. Western Mich
Fullerton, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Tucker Haymond led the way with 20 points, as the Western Michigan Broncos defeated the San Jose State Spartans, 79-60, in the consolation bracket of the Wooden Legacy tournament at Titan Gym.
For the Broncos (4-2), Connar Tava added 16 points, David Brown scored 11 and Austin Richie chipped in with 10 points.
Frank Rogers led the Spartans (1-5) with 17 points while Jordan Baker dished out six assists.
The Broncos owned the first half, taking a 36-21 lead into halftime. They opened the game on a 15-5 run, and after the Spartans cut that lead to just three late in the half, the Broncos outscored them down the stretch, 17-5. Western Michigan connected on 56.5 percent of its field goal tries in the opening period, including 5-of-6 from 3-point range. San Jose State shot just 32 percent from the field in the first, although that included a respectable 5-of-15 from beyond the arc.
Western Michigan saw its lead grow to as many as 25 points in the second, as they coasted to the easy victory.
The Broncos had the edge on the boards, outrebounding the Spartans, 33-23. The Spartans got almost all their production off the bench, as their reserves scored 55 of their 60 points.
