SAN DIEGO TOREROS

San Diego Toreros

San Diego Toreros VS. Princeton Tigers

Princeton (1-4) vs. San Diego (3-2)

GAME NOTES: Following Thursday losses, the Princeton Tigers and the San Diego Toreros will battle it out in the consolation round of the Wooden Legacy tournament Friday at Titan Gym.

Princeton put up a fight, but was ultimately downed by Texas-El Paso, 62-56, which sent the team to the consolation side of the tournament bracket. The Tigers are 1-4 on the season after a season-opening win against Rider and four straight losses.

San Diego still floats above .500 with a 3-2 record, sandwiching the team's three wins with losses. The Toreros were downed by a very strong Xavier squad, 82-71, on Thursday in the opening round of the Wooden Legacy that sent USD to the consolation bracket.

Princeton and San Diego have met up on the court one other time in history, with the Tigers coming away victorious.

Princeton didn't have the best shooting day against the still-unbeaten UTEP Miners on Thursday, netting 36.5 percent of the team's shot attempts in the contest with a 6-of-19 mark from 3-point range. Henry Caruso led the Tigers with 15 points off the bench, while Steven Cook chipped in with 13 points in the loss to UTEP. Hans Brase netted 12 points with a team best eight rebounds, and rounded out the Princeton double-digit scorers with 10. The Tigers only trailed by three points, 23-20, at halftime, but the team let the Miners net 47.8 percent of their shots in the second period.

The offensive struggles continue for Princeton, which is netting just 62.8 ppg this season through five games. What's worse is that the Tigers are allowing 69.0 ppg to challengers, so the team's offense isn't given a chance to keep up. Spencer Weisz leads the team in scoring this season with a 14.6 ppg average, but he's followed closely by Brase's 13.6 ppg average. Brase tops the squad with a 9.6 rpg mark as well. Cook rounds out the trio of double-digit scorers this season for Princeton with 10.0 ppg.

It's not like San Diego had a bad day against Xavier on the offensive end of the floor. In fact, the Toreros shot 54 percent from the field and went 12- of-23 from 3-point range, but the team just wasn't able to supply enough offense to keep pace with the Musketeers. Johnny Dee continues to dominate this season for San Diego, as he led the Toreros Thursday with 20 points. Chris Anderson notched a double-double with 10 points and 11 assists in the loss.

Dee continues his sensational run this season, entering the game against Princeton averaging 20.4 ppg on 47.7 percent shooting from the floor. He leads a Toreros team that is netting 72.4 ppg, and is shooting 49.8 percent as a whole. Anderson, last season's passing wizard for San Diego, is the only other player for USD netting double-digit scoring, chipping in 10.2 ppg with a team- best 47 assists. Forward Thomas Jacobs is contributing a team-best 6.8 rpg average through five contests for the Toreros.

Princeton's offensive struggles are well documented, and even if they slightly persist against a good San Diego team, the Toreros will jump all over it. San Diego played very well Thursday - the team just went up against a Xavier program playing out of this world.
