San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Aqeel Quinn scored 14 points as the San Diego State Aztecs held off the UNLV Runnin' Rebels, 53-47, in Mountain West Conference play at the Viejas Arena.

J.J. O'Brien finished with a double-double as he scored 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Aztecs (14-4, 4-1 MWC).

Rashad Vaughn was the leading scorer for UNLV (10-8, 1-4) as he finished with 17 points. Patrick McCaw also contributed with 15 points and six boards while Goodluck Okonoboh finished with 11 points in the loss.

UNLV connected on 58.8 percent of its field goal tries in the first half, and held a 24-17 advantage going into the locker room. The Runnin' Rebels held the Aztecs to a shooting percentage of just 25, including an 0-of-6 mark from 3- point range.

San Diego State improved its shooting in the final period, as it converted 53.6 percent of its field goal tries. The Runnin' Rebels meanwhile saw their shooting performance dip in the second half, as they made just 33.3 percent of their attempts. UNLV was leading by 11 at one point in the second half, but San Diego State came on strong in the end and permanently took the lead with 4:32 left in the contest.

The Aztecs dominated in points in the paint (36-18) and bench points (19-0). San Diego State also outrebounded UNLV, 36-25.
