San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Winston Shepard netted 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the San Diego State Aztecs to a 56-42 Mountain West Conference victory over the New Mexico Lobos at Viejas Arena.

Angelo Chol contributed 10 points in the win for San Diego State (12-4, 2-1 MWC), which has been victorious in five of its last six games.

Obij Aget led New Mexico (10-5, 2-1) in scoring with seven points on the night. Hugh Greenwood and Tim Jacobs pulled down a team-best six rebounds in the loss, which ended a two-game Lobos win streak.

Neither team shot well in the first half. San Diego State connected on 28.6 percent of its tries in the frame, including 1-of-12 from 3-point range, to take a 22-18 lead into the intermission. New Mexico hit on 22.2 percent from the floor.

The Aztecs woke up to the tune of 52.2 percent shooting in the second half, adding in an 8-of-14 mark from the free-throw line to fend off the Lobos, who shot 40 percent in the period despite going 0-of-5 from distance.

San Diego State dominated down low, outscoring New Mexico 32-18 in the paint. The Aztecs also owned a 37-31 advantage in rebounding in the win.
