St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Austin McBroom poured in a game-high 23 points, including the game-winning 3-pointer with 10 seconds remaining, as the Saint Louis Billikens outlasted the Southern Illinois Salukis, 62-59, in the season opener for both programs at Chaifetz Arena.

McBroom shot 5-of-7 from 3-point range and 7-of-10 at the foul line for Saint Louis (1-0). Ash Yacoubou tallied 12 points and seven assists, while Mike Crawford netted 10 points off the bench.

For SIU (0-1), Sean O'Brien registered a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds, and Anthony Beane pitched in with 14 points.

SIU outshot Saint Louis from the field in the first half, 46.4 percent to 42.9 percent, as it carried a 37-33 advantage into intermission.

The Salukis led by five with under four minutes to go before the Billikens used a 6-1 run to tie the score at 57-57 with 1:52 left on a Crawford 3- pointer. Action remained quiet until McBroom's game-winner. SIU had the final possession of the game but turned the ball over before it was able to attempt a game-tying shot.

Saint Louis outscored SIU from 3-point range (24-12) and at the foul line (20-13).
