Recap: Sacramento St vs. Portland State
Missoula, MT (SportsNetwork.com) - Mikh McKinney netted 24 points and grabbed five rebounds as the third-seeded Sacramento State Hornets took down the sixth-seeded Portland State Vikings, 70-60, in the quarterfinal round of the Big Sky Conference Tournament at Dahlberg Arena.
Dylan Garrity chipped in with 22 points and six boards for Sacramento State (20-10), which moves on to the semifinal round Friday to take on the second- seeded Eastern Washington Eagles. Cody Demps added 13 points, nine rebounds and five assists in the win.
Gary Winston led all scorers in the game with 26 points for Portland State (15-14), which dropped its third contest in its last four games. Tiegbe Bamba contributed 13 points with seven rebounds, and DaShaun Wiggins tallied 12 in the defeat.
Portland State made 41.9 percent of its field goal attempts in the first half, and buried 4-of-8 from 3-point range to help the team take a 31-27 lead into the intermission. Sacramento State shot 45.8 percent in the opening frame with a 3-of-6 mark from distance.
The Hornets went off in the second half, burying 55.6 percent of their attempts from the field, and added an 11-of-13 mark from the free-throw line to help them make the comeback. The Vikings dipped down to 30 percent shooting in the period, with a 2-of-12 touch from beyond the arc.
Sacramento State held a 30-20 advantage in points in the paint over Portland State, and edged out the Vikings in terms of points off turnovers, 12-9, in the win.
