RICHMOND SPIDERS

Richmond Spiders

Richmond Spiders VS. IUPU-Indianapolis Jaguars

IUPUI (3-8) at Richmond (6-4)

GAME NOTES: Seeking to extend a three-game win streak, the Richmond Spiders will entertain the IUPUI Jaguars in a non-conference battle at the Robins Center Tuesday afternoon.

IUPUI has struggled a bit this season in the early going, limping to a 3-8 record with a 1-5 mark away from home. The Jaguars finally put a stop to a six-game losing streak with a 71-65 overtime victory over South Alabama in their last outing.

Richmond has been up and down to start the new campaign, owning a 6-4 record on the year with wins in each of the team's last three games. The Spiders are a perfect 5-0 at home at the Robins Center. The team edged out Pepperdine at Madison Square Garden this past weekend, 65-63, as part of the Gotham Classic.

This is the first time these two programs have met on the basketball court in their history.

IUPUI and South Alabama were about as even as it gets in Saturday's non- conference melee. The two teams went into the intermission knotted at 30-30, and then finished regulation all tied up at 59-59. It was IUPUI that came out on top in the overtime period thanks to 10-of-12 shooting from the free-throw line that ended the team's six-game skid. DavRon Williams netted 13 points to lead the team, adding in seven rebounds. Mason Archie chipped in with 12 points, and Marcellus Barksdale tallied 10 with seven rebounds and four assists.

Scoring has been an issue for the Jaguars this season. IUPUI is netting just 40.4 percent of its shots from the floor, owning a 61.3 ppg average going to Richmond. Meanwhile the team is allowing opponents to score a very lofty 71.1 ppg on 47.9 percent shooting. Barksdale leads the team in scoring this season, netting just 9.6 ppg. Williams owns a team-best 6.0 rpg mark, and P.J. Boutte has dished out 43 assists to top the squad heading to Richmond.

Richmond was barely able to keep its brief winning streak alive against a hot Pepperdine team, but the Spiders were able to take a 65-63 decision thanks to some late-game clutch free-throw shooting and a 52.4 shooting percentage in the second half from the floor. TJ Cline led the way for the Spiders in the contest, netting 13 points with five rebounds. Both Trey Davis and Terry Allen contributed 11 points to the cause, as Richmond kept Pepperdine to a mere nine 3-point attempts in the game.

Kendall Anthony netted seven points in the team's win over Pepperdine, which lowered his team-leading scoring average a bit. But the guard still paces the Spiders entering the clash with IUPUI, scoring 14.4 ppg on 45.2 percent shooting. He's joined by Allen in the double-digit scoring range, as Allen comes in netting 11.0 ppg for a Richmond offense averaging 62.1 ppg as a unit. Alonzo Nelson-Ododa tops the team in rebounding, bringing down 5.8 rpg. Defensively, the Spiders are containing opponents to 58.0 ppg this season.

IUPUI has struggled mightily against tougher competition, and has not been good on the road. That's not good news for the Jags, who head to the Robins Center where Richmond is unbeaten this year.

Predicted Outcome

Richmond 66, IUPUI 57
