RHODE ISLAND RAMS

Rhode Island Rams

Rhode Island Rams VS. Fordham Rams

Fordham (5-7) at Rhode Island (9-3)

GAME NOTES: Red-hot Rhode Island turns its attention to Atlantic 10 Conference foe Fordham on Wednesday night for a clash of the Rams at the Ryan Center.

Fordham is looking to get back on track after being overwhelmed by VCU at home in Sunday's league opener, 75-58. The Rams had won their previous two contests, both at home. Now, they will play three of their next four on the road.

Meanwhile, Rhode Island is riding a four-game winning streak. The Rams traveled to Saint Louis on Saturday and came away with a 65-53 triumph over the Billikens. They are a perfect 6-0 at home this season.

URI leads the all-time series with Fordham, 35-25.

Fordham was no match for VCU's Havoc pressure defense on Sunday as the Rams committed a season-high 28 turnovers, 21 of which came on steals. The Rams were still able to hang around for much of the contest despite all of those miscues, although VCU ultimately sealed the outcome with a 14-0 second-half spurt. Fordham shot just 35.1 percent for the game, including a 4-of-23 (.174) effort from 3-point range.

Eric Paschall (15.7 ppg, 5.9 rpg) finished with a team-high 15 points, while Mandell Thomas (13.3 ppg, 4.6 rpg) notched his second career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds to go along with four steals. However, that duo also combined for 11 turnovers in the loss. Reigning A-10 Rookie of the Week Chris Sengfelder (11.8 ppg, 6.8 rpg) shot just 2-of-9 from the floor and finished with six points and eight boards.

Rhode Island boasts a +14.3 scoring margin on the season, and the Rams are also on the positive side in rebounding margin (+5.4) and turnovers (+2.3). The Rams have been particularly stingy on defense of late, having held their last four opponents to an average of only 53 points. E.C. Matthews leads the way with 16.8 ppg, followed by Hassan Martin with 11.8 points and a team-best 6.4 rebounds per tilt.

Martin led the way with 15 points, eight boards and four blocks against Saint Louis. Gilvydas Biruta was next in line with 14 points, followed by Matthews with 12 and Biggie Minnis with 10. URI closed out the first half with a 17-6 spurt, then went on a 13-0 run midway through the second half to put the game away.

Fordham can certainly take some lessons away from its loss to VCU, but the Rams must now deal with another tough defensive squad in Rhode Island, which has yet to lose at home this season.

Predicted Outcome

Rhode Island 72, Fordham 58
