University Park, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - D.J. Newbill poured in a game-high 23 points, and the Penn State Nittany Lions cruised to a 79-51 win over Rutgers in Big Ten Conference play at the Bryce Jordan Center.

Newbill, the Big Ten's leading scorer, shot 8-of-12 from the floor and 5-of-5 at the foul line to go along with a pair of steals. Brandon Taylor added 16 points and Shep Garner scored 13 to help the Nittany Lions (13-7, 1-6 Big Ten) end a six-game slide and earn their first conference victory.

Kadeem Jack led the way with 19 points for the Scarlet Knights (10-11, 2-6), who suffered their fourth straight loss. Jack was the team's only double-digit scorer.

Rutgers jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead and went on to shoot a healthy 52.4 percent from the field in the first half. However, the Nittany Lions buried seven 3-pointers (.583) in the opening frame as they took a 41-28 lead into the break.

The Nittany Lions kept Rutgers at arm's length with a 53.6-percent shooting effort from the floor in the second half, while the Scarlet Knights shot just 37 percent over the final 20 minutes.

The Nittany Lions committed only nine turnovers for the game and forced 16, which led to a 21-11 advantage in points off turnovers.
