Oral Roberts (1-1) at Oregon State (2-0)
GAME NOTES: The Oregon State Beavers will try to start their season 3-0 for only the second time since 2000-01 on Friday night when they battle the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles at Gill Coliseum as part of the MGM Grand Main Event.
The Beavers have won their first two games by a combined 37 points against Rice and Corban, with both of those contests taking place at home.
Oral Roberts began the season with a nine-point home win over Tulsa, but the Golden Eagles suffered a 14-point loss at Missouri on Wednesday night.
This will be the third all-time meeting between these two teams, and Oregon State won the last matchup, 112-87, on Dec. 18, 1992.
Oral Roberts suffered a 78-64 loss at Mizzou Arena earlier in the week. Obi Emegano led all scorers with a career-best 30 points for the Golden Eagles, but he was the sole visitor to finish in double figures. Korey Billbury pulled down 10 rebounds in a losing effort.
The Golden Eagles took a 40-38 lead into the break, behind a sizzling 65 percent shooting performance in the first half, including 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. Missouri found its shot after intermission, connecting on 63.2 percent of its field goal attempts and was nearly perfect from long range, hitting 8-of-9 3-point tries. Oral Roberts went cold from the field, making just 20.8 percent of its total shots, and missing all nine of its 3-point attempts.
Emegano is averaging 28 points over the first two games, and the Golden Eagles are receiving 13.0 points and 10.5 rebounds from Billbury. Their 41-point total is more than half of the offensive production of the entire team (70.5 ppg).
The Beavers haven't trailed in any game this season. They are coming off an 86-62 shellacking of Corban on Tuesday night in which Gary Payton II and Langston Morris-Walker each tallied 16 points. Oregon State has put up some impressive offensive numbers thus far. First, they have outscored opponents, 88-26, in the paint. They have made 41.7 percent of their 3-point tries.
Oral Roberts is 7-14 all-time against current teams from the Pac-12. A win Friday would be the first for an Oral Roberts team over a current member of the league since beating Utah, 78-70, on Nov. 27, 2010. Don't expect that to happen, as Payton and Morris-Walker should have their way at the offensive end.
