OREGON ST. BEAVERS

Oregon St. Beavers

Oregon St. Beavers VS. Arizona St. Sun Devils

Arizona State (8-6) at Oregon State (9-4)

GAME NOTES: The Oregon State Beavers hope to bounce back as they return home to Gill Coliseum to host the Arizona State Sun Devils for Pac-12 Conference action.

The Beavers suffered their second loss in three games when they were defeated, 71-59, by Oregon on Saturday. The setback dropped coach Wayne Tinkle's squad to a 9-4 overall record, including an 0-1 mark in league play. Oregon State has won its last nine games at home dating back to its 78-76 overtime victory over Arizona State in its 2013-14 regular season finale. The Beavers lead the Pac-12 in turnover margin (+3.2) and have outscored visitors at Gill Coliseum by an average of 19.3 ppg this season.

OSU has received a significant boost in Tinkle's first campaign at the helm from junior transfer Gary Payton II, who is pacing the team in scoring (12.5), rebounding (8.4), steals (39) and blocked shots (13). No player in school history has led the team in all four categories at the end of a season. Payton has averaged 4.4 steals per outing over his last five games and ranks third nationally with three thefts per tilt. The son of the Pac-12's career leader in steals finished the loss in Eugene with 12 points and five assists, while junior swingman Langston Morris-Walker netted a team-high 16 points. The Beavers struggled as a unit, converting only 35.2 percent of their shots from the floor, including a 4-of-15 clip from beyond the arc.

This will be the 82nd meeting in history between OSU and ASU on the hardwood. The Sun Devils hold a slim, 41-40, all-time series lead thanks to wins in 10 of the last 12 meetings.

Coach Herb Sendek's Sun Devils were dismantled on Saturday, as they fell, 73-49, at Arizona. ASU is 8-6 overall, but has gone 0-5 outside of Tempe. The Sun Devils' struggles on the road could be problematic, considering only two of their first seven Pac-12 games will be held at Wells Fargo Arena. ASU has received excellent support from its bench, which is posting 27.4 ppg, led by Jon Gilling's 8.0 ppg.

The Sun Devils could not get anything going offensively versus their in-state rival Wildcats, who held them to 9-of-26 shooting from inside the arc and 5- of-17 efficiency from 3-point range. Every ASU player was held in single- digits, as junior guard Gerry Blakes recorded a team-high nine points, but also committed eight of the squad's 22 turnovers. Savon Goodman is the go-to- guy for ASU with 13 ppg on 58.5 percent shooting from the field. Eric Jacobsen is adding 11.9 ppg and 7.1 rpg.

The Beavers are no longer going to be a cakewalk for their Pac-12 opponents due to their new floor general and head coach. ASU's poor performance on the road so far is not a good sign heading into Gill Coliseum, where OSU has been a dominant force.

Predicted Outcome

Oregon State 68, Arizona State 60
