Oregon Ducks VS. UC Irvine Anteaters

UC Irvine (6-5) at Oregon (9-3)

GAME NOTES: For the third time this season the Oregon Ducks will clash with a member of the Big West Conference as they host the UC Irvine Anteaters at Matthew Knight Arena on Monday night.

The Ducks already have victories over Cal State Northridge and UC Santa Barbara on their resume', the latter coming in the most recent outing last Monday night by a score of 82-78 in overtime. Oregon is enjoying a four-game win streak and has won six of the last seven overall, save for a 79-73 defeat at the hands of Ole Miss during the first week of December.

As for the Anteaters, they have won only one of their first five true road games and are one game over .500 through 11 decisions. The team has responded to back-to-back defeats by delivering a pair of victories versus Bradley (55-47) and Green Bay (72-70) during the Las Vegas Hoops Holiday Classic a few days before Christmas.

Oregon leads the all-time series by a 4-2 margin, winning the most recent meeting last season in Eugene by a score of 91-63.

It was a close call for the Anteaters when they took the floor against Green Bay, but they benefited from the Phoenix shooting only 4-of-18 behind the 3- point line and 18-of-30 at the charity stripe during the two-point decision. Alex Young accounted for 18 points and eight of his team's 15 assists, followed by Will Davis II and Jaron Martin with 16 and 12 points, respectively, as UCI claimed the tournament title at South Point Arena in Las Vegas.

Mamadou Ndiaye is listed as the top scorer for the Anteaters with his 12.0 ppg, shooting 69.4 percent from the floor, but he has appeared in only five games due to injury and there's no indication that he will be coming back any time soon. With that, Luke Nelson takes over as the top active scorer with 11.1 ppg, although he has made only 34.6 percent of his field goal tries and 25.8 percent beyond the arc for a program scoring 67.8 ppg and giving up 62.3 ppg entering the week.

In the most recent outing for the Ducks a week ago, the team shot 53.6 percent from the floor but still needed to go to overtime in order to pull off the four-point home win against the Gauchos. Joseph Young registered a double- double with 25 points and 11 rebounds, adding four assists and a couple of steals along the way. Jalil Abdul-Bassit came off the bench to provide 20 points, shooting 4-of-6 behind the 3-point line, and Dillon Brooks added 12 points before fouling out. Jordan Bell pitched in with 10 rebounds and three blocks.

Young continues to be one of the top offensive performers in the Pac-12, averaging 20.3 ppg thanks to his 48-of-52 accuracy at the free-throw line. Additionally, Young is also among the team leaders on the glass with 5.7 rpg and is first with 53 assists and 14 steals. As a unit, Oregon is producing 80.2 ppg and beating foes on the glass by 7.2 rpg, not to mention holding those opponents to 37.4 percent shooting from the floor.

The Ducks clearly hold a major advantage here as they boast one of the top scorers in the Pac-12, and UCI continues to deal with the loss of Ndiaye. Even with Ndiaye in the lineup, the Anteaters don't score many points, so they would still be the underdog in this meeting.

Predicted Outcome

Oregon 74, UC Irvine 61
