Old Dominion Monarchs VS. Murray St. Racers

Recap: Old Dominion vs. Murray State

Norfolk, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - Trey Freeman's 3-point prayer at the buzzer lifted the Old Dominion Monarchs to a thrilling 72-69 win over the Murray State Racers in the quarterfinals of the NIT at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.

Freeman finished the meeting with 25 points on 11-of-21 shooting from the floor for the top-seeded Monarchs (27-7), followed by Jonathan Arledge with 12 points and six rebounds before fouling out, while Jordan Baker pitched in with 11 points.

With the victory, ODU will now head to New York City and face off against the Stanford Cardinal in the semifinals, for the right to play for the title on April 2.

The third-seeded Racers (29-6) were led by Cameron Payne who tallied 23 points and handed out six assists in the setback, Jarvis Williams added 15 points and a game-high nine rebounds, followed by Jeffery Moss with 12 points.

Murray State was held to only 34.8 percent shooting from the floor in the first half, including 2-of-8 behind the 3-point line, allowing the hosts to move out to a slim 29-27 advantage at the break.

Old Dominion led by as many as 10 points in the second half and had a chance to put the game out of reach down the stretch, but a pair of missed free throws late opened the door for the Racers to knot the score at 69-69 on a 3- pointer by Moss with 3.5 seconds remaining in regulation.

Having saved a timeout, the Monarchs set up a play for Freeman who curled in for the inbounds pass, bulled his way up the right side and banked in a prayer from beyond the 3-point line as the buzzer sounded.

ODU, which survived 15 turnovers and was outscored at the free-throw line by a 24-9 margin, entered the game with a 23-game home win streak, while MSU had won 11 consecutive road dates.
