Norfolk, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - Jonathan Arledge made a game-winning layup with 19 seconds left to lift the Old Dominion Monarchs to a 50-49 win over the Illinois State Redbirds in a second round thriller as part of the National Invitation Tournament at Constant Convocation Center.

Keenan Palmore paced the Monarchs (26-7) with 11 points and nine rebounds. Arledge finished with 10 points. ODU will advance to play either Murray State or Tulsa. The win was the 23rd in a row at home for the Monarchs.

Daishon Knight led ISU (22-13) with 14 points on 6-of-16 shooting from the floor. DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell provided 13 points and eight boards in the setback.

ODU took a 27-22 lead into the break after it connected on 4-of-11 attempts from 3-point range and outrebounded the visitors, 24-18, in the opening period. The Redbirds hit on only 1-of-8 tries from beyond the arc before the break.

ISU battled back in the second stanza by outscoring the hosts, 9-3, from beyond the arc. The Redbirds had multiple opportunities to steal back the lead after Arledge's go-ahead layup, but failed to convert. Knight missed a jumper, Mikyle McIntosh went 0-of-2 at the free-throw line and Justin McCloud committed a turnover in the final four seconds of regulation.

ODU's bench outscored ISU's reserves, 28-9.
