Evanston, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Tre Demps netted 17 points on 6-of-15 shooting to lead his Northwestern Wildcats past the Western Michigan Broncos, 67-61, in non-conference action at Welsh-Ryan Arena.

Bryant McIntosh chipped in with 10 points and eight assists, while Nathan Taphorn added another 10 points off the bench for Northwestern (7-4). The Wildcats have won two of their last three.

Tucker Haymond scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds to pace Western Michigan (6-4), which has dropped two of its last three contests. Connar Tava (11 points, nine rebounds) and David Brown (11 points) also contributed double figures in the losing effort.

Western Michigan hit on only 37.5 percent of its shots in the first half, but still managed to take a 28-25 lead into the intermission. Northwestern connected on 35.7 percent of its attempts from the floor in the frame.

But the Wildcats picked it up in the second half, netting an even 50 percent from the floor to regain the lead. The Broncos made 40 percent of their tries in the period, which wasn't enough to maintain the edge.

Northwestern held a 25-14 advantage in bench scoring in the win, and held a 39-33 lead in rebounding over the Broncos.
