Recap: Northern Ariz vs. Northern Colorado
Missoula, MT (SportsNetwork.com) - Aaseem Dixon scored 16 points as the fourth-seeded Northern Arizona Lumberjacks defeated the fifth-seeded Northern Colorado Bears, 63-57, in the quarterfinals of the Big Sky Conference Tournament at Dahlberg Arena.
Kris Yanku added 15 points, six rebounds and five assists for the Lumberjacks (19-13), Ako Kaluna contributed 10 points and five rebounds, while Len Springs chipped in with 10 rebounds. Northern Arizona will square off against top-seeded Montana Grizzlies on Friday in the semifinals.
As for the Bears (15-15), Tim Huskisson scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds off the bench, while Tevin Svihovec and Cameron Michael both tallied 13 points, although the former shot just 4-of-17 from the floor on the evening.
The Lumberjacks connected on 4-of-12 shots from 3-point range and outscored the Bears 14-4 in the paint in the first half, on the way to a 34-30 lead at the break. Northern Colorado shot 40.7 percent from the field and connected on 6-of-7 chances at the free-throw line in the period.
In the second half Northern Arizona knocked down 34.6 percent from the field and converted on 8-of-9 chances at the charity stripe, en route to the six- point win. The Bears converted just 26.5 percent from the field over the final 20 minutes of action.
NAU outscored Northern Colorado 26-12 in the paint and knocked down all but one of 13 opportunities at the free-throw line.
