Recap: North Texas vs. Texas-El Paso
Denton, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Earvin Morris came off the bench and scored 22 points with six steals to lead the Texas-El Paso Miners to an 85-71 Conference USA victory over the North Texas Mean Green Friday at The Super Pit.
Vince Hunter nearly had a double-double with 21 points and nine rebounds for UTEP (9-4, 1-0 C-USA). Omega Harris chipped in with 12 points, and Cedrick Lang notched 10 rebounds with nine points for the Miners, who have won three games in a row.
DeAndre Harris netted 20 points, but turned the ball over six times for North Texas (6-7, 0-1), while Jordan Williams contributed 14 points and five boards. Colin Voss added 11 points and seven rebounds in the defeat, which was the third in a row for the Mean Green.
UTEP took a commanding 44-33 lead into the intermission after connecting on 52 percent of its shots in the first half, adding in a 13-of-18 mark from the free-throw line. North Texas hit on 57.1 percent shooting from the floor, but took four fewer attempts than UTEP.
Each side netted an even 50 percent of its tries in the second half, but the Miners again had the edge after making one more 3-point attempt as they coasted to victory.
UTEP held a 28-18 advantage in scoring in the paint, and outscored North Texas from the charity stripe, 22-14.
