Recap: North Texas vs. Louisiana Tech
Denton, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Jeremy Combs tallied a double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds to lead the North Texas Mean Green to an upset win, 73-66, over the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs in Conference USA play at The Super Pit.
For North Texas (8-10, 2-4 C-USA), Jordan Williams, Colin Voss and T.J. Taylor all chipped in with 16 points, while Williams grabbed nine rebounds and Taylor pulled down eight boards. The Mean Green ended a two-game losing skid with the win.
Alex Hamilton scored a game-high 27 points to pace Louisiana Tech (14-5, 5-1), which saw a six-game win streak come to an end. Erik McCree contributed 17 points and eight rebounds, and Kenneth Smith dished out seven assists in the defeat.
North Texas jumped ahead immediately in the first half and never looked back. The Mean Green held a commanding 49-28 lead at the intermission after shooting 72 percent from the floor in the opening frame to Louisiana Tech's 37.1 percent mark.
The Bulldogs made a furious comeback attempt in the second period, hitting 42.4 percent of their shots and 7-of-22 from 3-point range, while the Mean Green hit on only 27.6 percent from the field, including 0-of-5 from beyond the arc. Louisiana Tech shaved 14 points off North Texas' first-half advantage, but couldn't complete the full comeback.
North Texas held an 18-5 scoring advantage in bench points, and outscored Louisiana Tech from the free-throw line, 15-3, in the upset win.
