North Texas Mean Green VS. Creighton Bluejays

Recap: North Texas vs. Creighton

Denton, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Colin Voss scored 16 points and pulled down eight rebounds as the North Texas Mean Green held on to defeat the Creighton Bluejays, 62-58, in non-conference action in The Super Pit.

Also scoring in double figures for the Mean Green (6-4) was Jordan Williams with 13 points, to go along with seven rebounds, as the team won for the second time in as many outings.

The Bluejays (9-4), losers of two of the last three, were led by Toby Hegner with 13 points, shooting just 3-of-9 behind the 3-point line, followed by Isaiah Zierden and Geoffrey Groselle with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Creighton had a very tough time getting started in the first half, converting a total of just seven field goals, while shooting a miserable 2-of-14 behind the 3-point line. The Mean Green were not exactly setting the world on fire with 37.5 percent accuracy from the floor, but still the team led 35-18 at the half.

In the second half UNT's lead grew to 27 less than five minutes in and figured to have an easy road to victory, but the Jays refused to go away quietly and whittled the deficit to just two points at 57-55 with a minute to play in regulation. However, at that point the hosts began to make their free throws and those conversions helped to keep the Mean Green on top.

North Texas outscored the visitors at the charity stripe by an 18-4 margin.

The Mean Green, who were 4-0 when leading at halftime heading into the weekend, turned the ball over just three times in the first half but were guilty of 14 miscues following intermission, allowing Creighton to mount a serious comeback bid.
