Recap: New Mexico vs. Fresno State
Albuquerque, NM (SportsNetwork.com) - Hugh Greenwood scored 16 points as the New Mexico Lobos defeated the Fresno State Bulldogs, 76-64, in the Mountain West Conference opener at WisePies Arena.
Greenwood converted 3-of-5 shots behind the 3-point line for the Lobos (9-4, 1-0 MWC), cleared five rebounds and handed out five assists as the team won for the sixth time in the last seven outings. Also scoring in double figures for UNM were DeShawn Delaney and Devon Williams with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
The Bulldogs (5-9, 0-1) were paced by Marvelle Harris who dropped in a game- high 19 points, on his way to becoming the newest 1,000-point scorer in FSU history. Julien Lewis, who shot only 5-of-17 from the field, produced 14 points, Paul Watson 12 and Karachi Edo 11 points in the losing cause.
Fresno State led by as many as four points in the first half, but the team ended up shooting just 39.3 percent from the floor in the frame, en route to a 36-29 deficit at the break. The Bulldogs managed to remain within striking distance thanks to a 6-of-13 effort beyond the arc through the first 20 minutes.
Having converting 51.9 percent from the field in the first half, the Lobos jumped to a sizzling 75.0 percent after intermission, including 4-of-5 on the perimeter, not to mention 18-of-28 at the free-throw line in order to remain a safe distance from FSU.
New Mexico finished the evening connecting on 59.0 percent from the floor overall and a stellar 8-of-10 on the perimeter.
