Recap: Nevada vs. UNLV
Reno, NV (SportsNetwork.com) - Christian Wood registered a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds as the UNLV Runnin' Rebels pulled off a 67-62 win over the Nevada Wolf Pack in Mountain West Conference action at the Lawlor Events Center.
Also scoring in double figures for the Runnin' Rebels (12-9, 3-5 MWC) was Goodluck Okonoboh who not only tallied 13 points, he also cleared nine boards and blocked five shots. Rashad Vaughn pitched in with 10 points as UNLV won for the second time in as many outings.
Nevada (6-13, 2-5) was led by AJ West who came away with 15 points and a game- high 15 rebounds, 10 of those boards coming at the offensive end of the floor. Eric Cooper Jr. and Tyron Criswell responded with 16 and 15 points, respectively, in the team's fifth straight setback.
UNLV opened the meeting on a 4-0 run and led by double digits midway through the first half, shooting an even 50.0 percent from the floor in order to take a 33-26 advantage at the break.
After making good on only 36.7 percent from the field through the first 20 minutes of action, the Pack dipped to 34.6 percent in the second half, but made things interesting with 16-of-23 shooting at the free-throw line.
Nevada went cold down the stretch, missing nine straight field goals and hitting a mere 2-of-17 from the floor at one point, en route to the home loss.
The Wolf Pack won the rebounding battle, 41-35, but failed to capitalize on the fact that the visitors made only 13-of-25 at the charity stripe.
