Lincoln, NE (SportsNetwork.com) - Terran Petteway poured in 32 points as the Nebraska Cornhuskers held on for a 79-77 victory over the Michigan State Spartans in a Big Ten Conference battle at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Petteway knocked down 10-of-17 shots from the floor and 9-of-14 attempts at the free-throw line for the Cornhuskers (12-7, 4-3 Big Ten) as they picked up their fourth win in five outings. Shavon Shields added 21 points and seven boards.

Travis Trice led MSU (13-7, 4-3) with 27 points on 9-of-24 efficiency from the field. Denzel Valentine recorded a double-double of 21 points and 11 rebounds, while Branden Dawson tallied eight points and tied his career-high with 18 rebounds.

Nebraska dominated the opening stanza, shooting 50 percent from the floor and sinking 11-of-12 free-throw attempts en route to a 39-25 halftime lead. The Spartans were limited to a 2-of-11 clip from 3-point range in the first half.

MSU heated up to drain 43.9 percent of its field goal attempts, including 6- of-12 tries from behind the 3-point line after the break. The Cornhuskers converted 47.6 percent of their field goal attempts over the final 20 minutes of the contest. The Spartans trailed by as many as 17 before attempt to rally back late in the game. Nebraska led by multiple possessions until Trice made a layup to cut the deficit to 79-77 with three seconds left in regulation.

Despite the loss, MSU finished with a sizeable, 48-26 advantage in total rebounds.
