Lincoln, NE (SportsNetwork.com) - Terran Petteway and Shavon Shields scored 13 points each as the Nebraska Cornhuskers held on for a 56-55 win over the Cincinnati Bearcats in a double-overtime thriller at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Walter Pitchford nearly registered a double-double for the Cornhuskers (6-3) with nine points and 10 rebounds. Tai Webster also netted nine points for Nebraska as it snapped a two-game losing streak.

Troy Caupain led Cincinnati (6-2) with 13 points and six assists. Octavius Ellis paced the Bearcats on the glass with nine boards.

The Cornhuskers managed to jump out to a 13-point advantage on the scoreboard by the 6:21 mark of the first frame, but took a 23-21 lead into the intermission after the visitors used an 11-0 run to narrow the gap. Nebraska shot 44.4 percent from the floor and limited the Bearcats to 32.1 percent efficiency in the first half.

Cincinnati continued to struggle after the break, hitting on only 34.6 percent of its field goal tries in the second period. The Bearcats trailed, 44-42, with one minute left in regulation before Gary Clark tied the score with a dunk. Petteway missed a 3-point field goal try and Caupain committed a turnover in the closing moments of the second half.

The Bearcats had a chance to seal the deal in the first extra session, as they led, 52-50, with 14 seconds showing on the clock. However, Shields drew a foul and converted both of his free attempts on Nebraska's next possession. Caupain had a layup blocked by David Rivers just before the buzzer, sending the contest into a second overtime.

Benny Parker put the Cornhuskers in front, 56-55, with a made jumper at the 1:14 point of the second extra session. Ellis put himself in position to give the visitors a lead as he was fouled while attempting to put back an offensive rebound, but failed to convert both of his tries at the charity stripe. Kevin Johnson also had an opportunity to put Cincinnati back in front right in the closing seconds, but his 3-point try fell off the mark.

The Bearcats held a narrow, 43-42, advantage in total rebounds. Cincinnati finished 12-of-24 at the free-throw line, compared to the Cornhuskers' 20- of-23 performance at the charity stripe.
