Recap: NC State vs. Wofford
Raleigh, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - A layup by Justin Gordon with less than seven seconds remaining proved to be the true game winner as the Wofford Terriers slipped by NC State, 55-54, in a remarkable non-conference game at Reynolds Coliseum.
Gordon converted just two of his eight field goal chances for the Terriers (8-2) as they ran their win streak to three in a row and snapped a lengthy slide in the series versus the Wolfpack (8-2).
The top scorers for the visitors were Karl Cochran and Eric Garcia with 14 and 10 points, respectively.
The Pack was paced by Trevor Lacey who tallied a game-high 18 points on 8- of-12 shooting from the floor, while Ralston Turner and Anthony Barber pitched in with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Wofford led by six points a little more than four points into the first half, but the team ended up shooting only 32.3 percent from the floor, leaving the squad trailing by five at the break, 33-28.
Wofford led by a point, 53-52, with under a minute to play but a jumper by Lacey put the hosts on top by one with 35 seconds left. The Terriers had plenty of time to get a good look at the basket on their next possession, but one jumper missed the mark and another shot was deflected out of bounds.
With 6.7 seconds remaining in regulation, Wofford ran a play that freed up Gordon along the baseline and he was able to lay it in with 1.9 seconds on the clock.
Forced to go the length of the court, the inbounds pass went to Lacey in the middle of the floor and he launched an awkward shot from just outside the 3- point line and it went through the net for what appeared to be the game winner at the buzzer. However, after video review the basket was waved off and the Terriers awarded the victory.
NC State entered the meeting with a 10-1 advantage in the all-time series. The last time the Terriers defeated the Pack was during the 1934-35 campaign.
