Michigan Wolverines VS. Nebraska Cornhuskers

Nebraska (12-7) at Michigan (12-8)

GAME NOTES: Having won two games in a row and four of their last five, the Nebraska Cornhuskers will now travel to face the Michigan Wolverines in a Big Ten Conference battle at the Crisler Center on Tuesday.

Nebraska has defeated Minnesota (52-49) and Michigan State (79-77) in back-to- back home games to improve to 12-7 on the season with a 4-3 mark in Big Ten play. But away from home, the Huskers are just 1-4.

Michigan saw a two-game win streak come to an end on Saturday with a tough 69-64 overtime loss to top-10 foe Wisconsin. The Wolverines fell to 12-8 on the season, with a 5-3 record in conference action. Michigan is 9-4 at home, however.

This clash will be the 13th all-time between Michigan and Nebraska, and the only one during the regular season. Michigan holds a 10-2 series advantage over Nebraska, which includes a 6-0 mark in Ann Arbor. The Wolverines have taken the last six head-to-head meetings.

Nebraska pulled way ahead of Michigan State in the first half of Saturday's win over the Spartans, and held a 14-point lead (39-25) at halftime after the Spartans connected on just 36 percent of their first-half shots. The Huskers gave away a large chunk of that lead in the second half, but still managed to hold on down the stretch for the two-point victory. Terran Petteway dominated in the contest, scoring a game-high 32 points for Nebraska, connecting on 10- of-17 shooting from the floor. Shavon Shields tallied 21 points with seven rebounds, and Tai Webster added in 13 points in the winning effort.

It's been a strong season for Petteway. The guard moved past Ohio State freshman D'Angelo Russell following the 32-point outburst and into second on the Big Ten scoring list with a 19.6 ppg mark. Shields checks in at second on Nebraska and fifth in the conference with 16.7 ppg, adding in a team-best 6.7 rpg. Petteway leads the Huskers in several other categories as well, namely in assists (48), blocked shots (21) and is second on the team in steals (23). The Nebraska offense, which averages 65.3 ppg (11th in the Big Ten) revolves around Petteway and Shields. But so does the team's second-best scoring defense in the league, which allows 61.4 ppg to opponents.

Wisconsin gained a seven-point advantage over Michigan at halftime in Saturday's Big Ten showdown, but the Wolverines were able to erase that lead and knot the score up, 57-57, at the end of regulation against the sixth- ranked Badgers. But in overtime, it was all Wisconsin, as the visitors hit 7- of-9 from the free-throw line to ice the win. Derrick Walton Jr. led the way for Michigan with 17 points, adding in five rebounds. Zak Irvin was the only other player in double figures against the Badgers, adding 12 points to the losing effort. Michigan finished the contest shooting 42.6 percent from the floor.

It may take some time for the loss of Caris LeVert, who led the Wolverines in all three major statistical categories before his season-ending injury, to sink in, although the team did win back-to-back games before the loss to Wisconsin. Irvin now leads the team in scoring with 13.6 ppg, followed by Walton's 10.7 ppg mark. With a 4.7 rpg average, Walton also tops the squad on the glass. Michigan's scoring offense ranks right behind Nebraska's on the Big Ten charts, averaging 64.8 ppg on 41.2 percent shooting. But the Wolverines have played strong defense so far, and have limited opponents to just 62.0 ppg - fourth-best in the conference.

After a huge win over Michigan State, the Cornhuskers will come riding a wave of momentum into this clash. But Nebraska hasn't performed well at all on the road this season, so the team will have to try and tune out the loud Crisler Center crowd. If Petteway is on his game again, this could be Nebraska's shot at a second three-game win streak this season.

Predicted Outcome
