East Lansing, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Denzel Valentine knocked down 18 points as the Michigan State Spartans routed The Citadel Bulldogs, 82-56, in a non- conference clash at the Breslin Center.

Valentine shot 8-of-11 from the field for the Spartans (9-4), who have won four of their last five. Matt Costello (13 points), Marvin Clark Jr. (12) and Gavin Schilling (11) also scored in double figures. Travis Trice dished out 11 assists.

P.J. Horgan notched a game-high 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor for the Bulldogs (4-7), who have lost three straight. Ashton Moore logged 15 points and turned the ball over seven times.

The Spartans started strong out of the gate, shooting 53.6 percent from the field in the first half, while holding the opposition to a 43.5 percent mark. They led 32-26 at halftime.

The visitors dipped to 40 percent in the second half, while the Spartans only got hotter, shooting at an impressive 68 percent clip from the floor. The home team ran away with the game, leading by as many as 34 points midway through the second half.

Michigan State dominated in the paint, where it outscored the Bulldogs, 44-16. The Spartans also held a 28-11 advantage in bench scoring.
