East Lansing, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Travis Trice recorded a double-double with 18 points and 10 assists as the Michigan State Spartans downed the Northwestern Wildcats, 84-77, in a Big Ten Conference overtime thriller at the Breslin Center.

Denzel Valentine added 17 points for the Spartans (12-5, 3-1 Big Ten), who have now won three games in a row. Branden Dawson and Gavin Schilling provided 13 points apiece, with the former also securing a team-high nine rebounds. Bryn Forbes chimed in with 11 points.

Bryant McIntosh paced Northwestern (10-6, 1-2) with 18 points on 6-of-16 shooting from the floor. Tre Demps finished with 17 points and six assists, while JerShon Cobb came off the bench to net 12 points.

The Spartans managed to build a 14-point lead by the 11:13 mark of the first stanza, but Northwestern battled back to send the contest into the intermission tied at 40. The Wildcats converted 7-of-12 attempts from 3-point range in the opening stanza.

Demps gave the visitors a 72-70 lead with a pair of makes at the charity stripe with 28 seconds remaining in regulation. Valentine drew a foul from Vic Law when attempting a field goal on MSU's next possession and went on to tie the score with a pair of conversions at the free-throw line. Demps missed a potential game-winning jumper just before the buzzer.

The Spartans began the extra session on an 8-0 run and never looked back.

MSU managed to hold off Northwestern despite being outscored, 36-9, from beyond the arc.
