MIAMI (OHIO) REDHAWKS

Miami (Ohio) RedHawks

Miami (Ohio) RedHawks VS. Elon Phoenix

Elon (2-3) at Miami-Ohio (2-3)

GAME NOTES: After two straight losses in Riviera Maya, Mexico, the Miami-Ohio RedHawks return home to face the Elon Phoenix in a non-conference clash at Millett Hall Sunday.

Elon opened the season with a six-point win over Florida Atlantic, then the team dropped its first contest to Charlotte, 73-60. Since then, each of the Phoenix's last three games has been decided by a combined nine points - two losses and a victory.

Miami-Ohio opened the season with a 2-1 record on its home court, but then the team hit the road to Mexico for an early-season tournament, where the RedHawks dropped back-to-back games against Northwestern (55-46) and Virginia Tech (78-63).

This meeting between Elon and Miami will represent the first-ever clash of the programs in their series history.

Elon had a bit of a rough outing in the team's most recent loss - a 72-65 defeat at the hands of North Florida. The Phoenix could only connect on 39.3 percent of their shot attempts in the contest, and they allowed the Ospreys to score 36 points in the paint. Luke Eddy topped the team in the contest with 14 points, while Elijah Bryant contributed 10 points before he fouled out of the game. The team's defense wasn't very strong, as Elon allowed North Florida to shoot 47.2 percent from the field.

The Phoenix enter this clash averaging 66.0 ppg offensively, while giving up 68.8 ppg to opponents. Bryant leads the team with a 13.6 ppg mark, followed closely by Tanner Samson's 12.4 ppg average. Eddy comes in at third on the team in scoring as he rounds out the trio of double-digit scorers at 10.0 ppg. Forward Ryan Winters leads the team in rebounding through five games, grabbing 6.4 boards per contest.

Miami-Ohio fell behind early against Virginia Tech in the team's most recent loss at Riviera Maya, connecting on just 32 percent of its shot attempts in the first half. That allowed the Hokies to take a commanding 39-17 advantage at the intermission, and Virginia Tech never looked back. Zach McCormick was the only RedHawks player to net a double-digit point total against the Hokies, going for 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting. Will Sullivan and Eric Washington each chipped in with nine points in the defeat.

Sullivan and Washington are the only two Miami players to average a double- digit point average through five games, but it hasn't helped the RedHawks overall, who net a dismal 59.6 ppg. Sullivan leads the team by scoring 10.8 ppg, followed by Washington's even 10.0 ppg mark. Averaging just 29.0 rpg as a team, the RedHawks are led by Willie Moore's 4.0 rpg average. Washington tops the team with 25 assists on the year already, but adds 18 turnovers.

Miami-Ohio has a lot of work to do in a lot of different areas, but the same goes for Elon after losing so many valuable scorers from last season's squad. Although Miami has the homecourt advantage, the team simply doesn't have the scoring means necessary to win games that otherwise should be winnable.
