Huntington, WV (SportsNetwork.com) - Justin Edmonds scored 20 points, helping the Marshall Thundering Herd snap a nine-game losing streak as they knocked off the Texas-El Paso Miners, 78-71, in Conference USA action at the Cam Henderson Center.

Ryan Taylor finished with a double-double consisting of 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Thundering Herd (5-15, 1-6 C-USA). JP Kambola contributed to the victory with 13 points and nine boards, while Aleksa Nikolic tallied 10 points and six rebounds.

Omega Harris led UTEP (12-7, 4-3) with 18 points in the loss. Matt Willms and Cedrick Lang added 12 points and 11 points, respectively, while Vince Hunter tallied nine points and nine boards. The Miners have now lost two straight since going 7-1 in their previous eight contests.

Marshall held a slim 42-39 advantage heading into the locker room after shooting 13-of-36 from the field in the opening period, including 8-of-21 from 3-point distance. UTEP kept pace by converting 14-of-28 on field goal tries, but that included just 2-of-7 beyond the arc.

The Herd shot better in the second period as they netted 46.4 percent of their field goal attempts. UTEP converted 45.2 percent of its shot attempts in the second half and held a one-point lead with 5:15 remaining before Marshall closed the game on an 11-3 run to secure the victory.

In a game that featured seven ties and nine lead changes, UTEP was held to only 5-of-16 on the perimeter and hurt itself with just 10-of-19 at the charity stripe.
