Estero, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Aaron Valdes scored 10 points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds in Hawaii's 62-55 win over Marist in the consolation round of the Gulf Coast Showcase.

The Rainbow Warriors (5-2) enjoyed a 42-28 rebounding edge over the Red Foxes (0-4), and it resulted in a 28-16 points in the paint advantage.

With 10:19 to go, Marist's Phillip Lawrence hit a 3-point shot to cut the Hawaii lead to 46-45, the closest it had been since early in the first half when the game was tied 2-2. Hawaii responded with an 11-1 run that included five points from Negus Webster-Chan to take control of the game and hang on for the win.

The Red Foxes cut the lead to three with 1:11 remaining, but a Hawaii jumper from Garrett Nevels and free throws from Roderick Bobbitt sealed the game in the closing moments.

Nevels led Hawaii with 18 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field.

Marist's Chavaughn Lewis paced all scorers with 24 points and also grabbed nine boards.

Both teams will wrap up the Gulf Coast Showcase Wednesday. Hawaii will take on East Carolina in the 5th-place game, and Marist will meet Fresno State in the 7th-place game after the Pirates beat the Bulldogs earlier Tuesday.
