LSU Tigers

LSU Tigers VS. Georgia Bulldogs

Georgia (9-4) at LSU (11-3)

GAME NOTES: The Georgia Bulldogs and LSU Tigers both had lengthy win streaks snapped this week, and now they will square off against one another in a Saturday night Southeastern Conference bout at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

Georgia opened SEC play against No. 23 Arkansas on Tuesday and came away with a 79-75 loss in Athens. Prior to that, the Bulldogs had won six straight to close out their non-conference schedule.

LSU is coming off Thursday's 74-67 overtime loss at Missouri in its conference lid lifter. That outcome snapped the Tigers' eight-game winning streak dating back to November.

LSU leads the all-time series, 62-44, although last season the Bulldogs swept both meetings and notched their first win in Baton Rouge since 2002. This is the only scheduled matchup between these two teams in 2014-15.

Georgia led nationally-ranked Arkansas by as many as 13 points late in the first half. However, the Bulldogs cooled off in the second stanza, shooting just 34.5 percent from the floor after shooting 57.7 percent and making 6-of-9 3-point attempts in the opening frame. Arkansas, meanwhile, shot 58 percent from the floor after halftime and forced 11 Georgia turnovers to overtake the lead. The Bulldogs finished with a 40-25 rebounding advantage but were unable to overcome 17 turnovers.

Nemanja Djurisic (11.3 ppg, 5.5 rpg) paced five double-digit scorers for Georgia with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Marcus Thornton (13.5 ppg, 7.2 rpg), the team's leading scorer and rebounder on the season, finished with 11 points and a game-high eight boards.

LSU boasts a couple of menacing post players in Jarell Martin (17.5 ppg, 8.8 rpg) and Jordan Mickey (15.8 ppg, 10.8 rpg). Martin and Mickey are shooting a combined 50 percent from the floor, and they rank second and third in the SEC in rebounding. Keith Hornsby (12.6 ppg) is the team's top 3-point shooter (.375, 24-of-64), while reserve Tim Quarterman (11.7 ppg, 5.8 rpg) also helps out on the glass.

Hornsby hit a three in the waning moments of regulation against Missouri to force overtime, but LSU was outscored 9-2 in the extra session. Quarterman scored a team-high 19 points off the bench, Hornsby had 17 points to go along with eight rebounds and three steals, and Mickey (nine points) pulled down 17 boards and blocked three shots.

The Bulldogs had LSU's number last season, but it may be asking a bit much to expect Georgia to come into Baton Rouge and win twice in a row. Still, this game is likely to remain fairly close throughout as both teams have been playing well.

Predicted Outcome
