LSU Tigers

LSU Tigers VS. Clemson Tigers

Clemson (2-2) vs. LSU (3-1)

GAME NOTES: A cat fight is set to ensue during the championship round of the 2014 Paradise Jam, as the Clemson Tigers take on the LSU Tigers at the Sports and Fitness Center on Monday afternoon.

LSU is off to a 3-1 start to the 2014-15 campaign, the lone setback coming against Old Dominion (70-61) in the first round of this tournament back on Friday. The squad managed to bounce back with a 72-58 victory against Weber State on Saturday.

As for Clemson, which is preparing for a four-game homestand that begins later this week, it managed to snap a two-game slide over the weekend with a 59-50 victory over Nevada, after losing to Gardner-Webb in the first game of the tourney.

LSU is ahead in the all-time series by a count of 3-2, winning three straight meetings after losing the first two clashes in 1955 and 1966. However, the most recent meeting took place more than four decades ago in 1969.

Versus Nevada, Clemson turned the ball over 14 times and made a total of just 19 field goals, and still those Tigers pulled off the win thanks to Jaron Blossomgame and Landry Nnoko who scored 13 and 10 points, respectively. The squad made good on only 16-of-26 at the free-throw line (.615), but still that meant the team outscored the Pack at the charity stripe by a 16-4 margin.

On a team that is scoring 72.2 ppg, while limiting the competition to 60.0 ppg, Nnoko is the top offensive threat with his 13.8 ppg, although having the ball in his hands is not always a positive since he has turned it over 14 times and has just two assists to his credit in four games. Fellow starters Damarcus Harrison and Blossomgame are putting up 10.8 ppg each and Rod Hall another 10.0 ppg, the latter also accounting for 16 of the squad's 46 assists.

Against Weber State the last time out, LSU converted 49.2 percent from the floor and forced 18 turnovers by the Wildcats in order to capture the double- digit win. Jordan Mickey put together a strong double-double performance with 27 points and 14 rebounds, both of which were game highs, while Keith Hornsby posted 18 points and Jarell Martin 11.

After four games, Mickey is averaging a double-double with 17.8 points and 10.0 rebounds per contest, shooting an impressive 57.9 percent from the floor along the way. Martin checks in with 16.5 ppg, Hornsby 15.5 ppg and Josh Gray another 11.0 ppg, the latter also pacing the program with 15 assists.

Without going out on much of a limb here, it is safe to say that the Tigers will come out on top in this meeting, the Tigers from LSU of course, just as long as Mickey is again a force in the paint for the program.
