LSU TIGERS

LSU Tigers

LSU Tigers VS. Auburn Tigers

Auburn (14-9) vs. LSU (22-9)

GAME NOTES: The SEC Tournament's quarterfinal round continues at Bridgestone Arena on Monday, when the fourth-seeded LSU Tigers take on the 13th-seeded Auburn Tigers.

The winner here will move into Saturday's semifinal round against either top- ranked Kentucky or Florida.

LSU picked up the four-seed with a strong finish to the regular season as well. Johnny Jones' Tigers managed to win four of the last five games, including a big win over Arkansas in the regular-season finale. LSU's only SEC Tournament title came in 1980.

Auburn's run in this tournament certainly comes as a surprise, but Bruce Pearl has his team playing well. Despite winning just four conference games all season long, the Tigers have come to life in the postseason. The team opened tournament play with a first-round win over No. 12 seed Mississippi State (74-68) and then pulled off a big upset Thursday by knocking off No. 5 seed Texas A&M (66-59).

These two teams split a pair of regular-season meetings, with both teams winning on the road.

Auburn is led by the conference's top scorer in guard KT Harrell, but his 18.1 ppg certainly didn't lead to many victories in league play this season. Antoine Mason (15.1 ppg) has returned to the team after missing time due to the death of his father. Cinmeon Bowers (12.6 ppg, 9.7 rpg) provides frontcourt balance and was one of the SEC's top interior players this year.

Auburn overcame a 10-point halftime deficit against Texas A&M (33-23) and erupted for 43 second-half points en route to the upset win over the Aggies on Thursday. Harrell knocked down four 3-pointers and went 11-of-14 from the free-throw line to lead all scorers with 25 points. Bowers tacked on 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the win.

LSU has had plenty of success on the offensive end of the floor this season. A dangerous squad in that regard, LSU comes into the postseason averaging 73.8 ppg on .459 shooting.

It helps to have one of the nation's top low post tandems in forwards Jarell Martin (16.9 ppg, 9.0 rpg) and Jordan Mickey (16.0 ppg, SEC-best 9.9 rpg). Both players were named All-SEC First-Team members, whole Mickey found a spot on the All-SEC Defensive Team. Keith Horsby (13.2 ppg) and Tim Quarterman (11.4 ppg) provide perimeter balance. The pair have combined for 105 of the team's 177 3-pointers this season.

Bowers will have his hands full with Martin and Mickey. Auburn is on a nice little run and it should help Pearl in his quest to turn things around in year two, but the SEC's Cinderella team will likely fall in this one.

Predicted Outcome

LSU 71, Auburn 64
