La Salle Explorers VS. Davidson Wildcats

Davidson (16-6) at La Salle (14-10)

GAME NOTES: The La Salle Explorers take aim at their fifth win in six games on Saturday when they host the Davidson Wildcats for Atlantic 10 Conference action at Tom Gola Arena.

La Salle survived a double-overtime thriller on Wednesday and walked away with a 74-69 double-overtime victory over No. 20 VCU. The Explorers will now look to continue that momentum in Philadelphia, where they have won their last four games at Tom Gola Arena. Coach John Giannini's team is ranked third in the A-10 in scoring defense, holding league foes to 60.1 ppg on 41 percent shooting from the floor. The Explorers have allowed only 55.7 ppg on 34.9 percent efficiency from the floor in their six conference victories.

The Wildcats are riding a two-game winning streak following victories over Duquesne (95-69) and George Mason (92-71) last week. Coach Bob McKillop's team enters the weekend one-game out of the four-way tie for first place in the A-10 standings and one game in front of the 6-5 Explorers. The Wildcats have been sensational on the offensive end through their first 11 games as a member of the A-10. They pace the conference in scoring (76.7 ppg), 3-point field goal percentage (.390), assists (17.0 apg) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.8).

In the only previous meeting between these schools on the hardwood, La Salle beat Davidson 84-70 in the 2009 Charleston Classic.

The Explorers' triumph over the nationally ranked Rams came in large part due to the breakout performance of sophomore guard Jordan Price, who tallied 34 points, 18 rebounds and five assists. The 34 points and 18 rebounds were career-highs and gave him his first career double-double. Cleon Roberts and Jarrell Wright scored 12 points each in the contest. Price is now ranked third among A-10 players in scoring with 17.3 points per league game. Steve Zack and Wright combine to give La Salle one of the A-10's top forward tandems. Zack is ranked fourth in A-10 games with 9.1 rpg and fifth in blocks with 1.8 per tilt. Wright is posting 11.8 points and 6.5 rebounds per outing.

Davidson has an all-conference caliber guard of its own in senior Tyler Kalinoski, who ranks fourth in the A-10 with 16.6 points per conference game and second in the league with 4.9 apg. Kalinoski is knocking down 2.6 shots from beyond the arc per game since entering league play and also paces the Wildcats with 5.9 rpg. Junior guard Brian Sullivan has provided the Wildcats with steady offensive production as well, netting 15.3 ppg, while ranking third in the conference in assists with 4.2 per game.

Five different Wildcats scored in double figures in their dominant win over GMU. Sullivan tallied 19 points and seven assists, while Jordan Barnham racked up 18 points, six assists and four rebounds. Kalinoski supplied 18 points and five boards in the win.

The Explorers will need to put a huge effort into defending the perimeter against this trigger happy Davidson unit. The Wildcats have lost two of their last three on the road, but they built up a great deal of momentum at home this week. The Explorers are solid defensively, however they are one of the weakest offensive teams in the A-10. La Salle will need to take control of the tempo early on in the contest, as it can not afford to run-and-gun with the Wildcats.

Predicted Outcome

Davidson 71, La Salle 65
