Recap: Kent State vs. Yale
Kent, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Jack Montague scored 13 points, helping the Yale Bulldogs take down the Kent State Golden Flashes, 66-59, in the championship game of the Men Against Breast Cancer Classic at the M.A.C. Center.
Justin Sears scored 12 points and had nine rebounds for the Bulldogs (4-1), who have won their last four. Matt Townsend (12 points), Armani Cotton (11) and Javier Duren (10) shared the offensive workload.
Jimmy Hall shot 10-of-16 from the field for a game-high 22 points for the Golden Flashes (4-1), who had a four-game winning streak come to an end. Kris Brewer and Derek Jackson each had nine points.
The Bulldogs struggled in the early going, shooting just 35 percent from the field in the opening half. The Flashes, however, lit it up at a 56.5 percent mark, leading 32-24 at halftime.
Fortunes were reversed in the second half, as the home team dropped off to shoot just 36 percent from the field, while the visitors improved to a sizzling 66.7 percent. Yale also knocked down 15-of-19 at the free-throw line to help close out the game.
With 1:12 left to play, Brewer hit a free throw to put Kent State up 59-58, but that was the last time his team found the net in the game, as the visitors closed out on an 8-0 run.
In the end, free-throw shooting gave the Bulldogs a real advantage, as they hit 22-of-27 at the charity stripe.
