KANSAS ST. WILDCATS

Kansas St. Wildcats

Kansas St. Wildcats VS. Texas Tech Red Raiders

Texas Tech (10-6) at Kansas State (9-7)

GAME NOTES: Looking to build on back-to-back wins, the Kansas State Wildcats will host the Texas Tech Red Raiders in a Big 12 Conference bout Wednesday at Bramlage Coliseum.

Kansas State put a stop to a three-game losing skid with a 58-53 victory over TCU a week ago, then followed it up with a 66-63 overtime edging of Oklahoma on Saturday for the win streak. Now the Wildcats get set to host Texas Tech and Baylor in consecutive games at home, looking to improve on a 9-7 record and 2-1 mark in conference play.

Texas Tech has seriously floundered in the past few weeks, having lost three games in a row and five of its last six overall. The Raiders still have 10 wins on the season (10-6), but the team is off to a cold start in conference play, having lost all three Big 12 matchups.

Kansas State has doubled up on Texas Tech in the all-time series, owning a 20-10 record over the Raiders. The Wildcats have been deadly at home in the series, with a 12-2 mark in Manhattan.

Texas Tech was absolutely demolished by Kansas in the team's most recent outing. The Jayhawks shot 52.5 percent from the floor and held the Red Raiders to 32.7 percent shooting to run to an 86-54 Big 12 victory. The Red Raiders could only manage 18 field goals in the entire contest out of 55 shots attempted. Justin Jamison led the way for Texas Tech with 12 points off the bench, while Zach Smith and Isaiah Manderson each contributed eight points in the defeat. Kansas owned a huge advantage over the Raiders in scoring in the paint, with a 30-18 edge down low.

Devaugntah Williams was held to just three points in the Red Raiders' loss to Kansas, but the guard still heads into Wednesday's matchup maintaining a team- leading 11.1 ppg mark, and his 2.0 apg average as well. He's the only Texas Tech player to own a double-digit scoring effort this season, with Robert Turner (8.7 ppg) being the next closest. The team's scoring average of 67.4 ppg is second to last in the Big 12 Conference coming in, although the Raiders have been able to work with a lower scoring offense as long as the team keeps up it's defensive effort of holding opponents to 61.6 ppg.

With 4.1 seconds left to play in overtime, Kansas State guard Marcus Foster connected on a 3-point attempt to give his Wildcats a 66-63 edge over Oklahoma on the road. The win was huge for the Wildcats going forward, as the team now owns a 2-1 record in conference play. Stephen Hurt came off the bench to do the most damage for Kansas State, as the big man netted 15 points with eight rebounds in 23 minutes of action. Foster chipped in with 14 points in the win, including some of the biggest shots of the game. Thomas Gipson contributed 10 points and six boards for the Wildcats in their second win in a row.

The Wildcats have built a defensive foundation around this basketball team, as Kansas State heads into Wednesday's contest allowing only 63.2 ppg to opponents, although those opponents are shooting a healthy 45.2 percent from the floor. But K-State has stayed afloat with a 66.2 ppg average this season on 45.8 percent shooting. Foster leads the team in the scoring department with 13.7 ppg, although Gipson (11.6 ppg on 50.9 percent shooting) and Nino Williams (10.9 ppg) aren't too far off the pace. Gipson narrowly edges out Williams for the team lead in rebounding, pulling down 4.8 boards per outing compared to 4.7 rpg for Williams.

Somewhere along the line, Texas Tech derailed. The Red Raiders haven't been able to stop much at all in the past few games, especially Big 12 competition. Heading out on the road to take on a tough Kansas State team won't be any easier of a challenge.

Predicted Outcome
