Recap: IUPUI vs. Georgia State
Indianapolis, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - R.J. Hunter scored a game-high 27 points as the Georgia State Panthers held on to defeat the IUPUI Jaguars, 66-63, in non-conference action at Fairgrounds Coliseum.
Hunter shot 10-of-11 at the free-throw line in an effort to offset his mere 1- of-7 performance behind the 3-point line on the afternoon for the Panthers (5-2). Ryan Harrow added 21 points as he and Hunter combined to make all but six of the team's 23 field goals.
The Jaguars (2-4) were paced by Marcellus Barksdale with 22 points, converting not only 8-of-9 from the floor but also a perfect 4-of-4 beyond the arc for the hosts. P.J. Boutte contributed 12 points and eight assists and DavRon Williams 10 points and eight rebounds off the bench in 17 minutes of action.
IUPUI led by as many as seven points early in the meeting, but the team ended up shooting a woeful 5-of-23 from the floor, 1-of-7 on the perimeter through the first 20 minutes of action, yet trailed by only a single point at the break, 27-26.
The second half saw the Jags turn it around with a staggering 71.4 percent from the field, 7-of-9 (.778) behind the 3-point line, but down the stretch the Panthers were able to hold on for the close call.
In a game that featured six ties and seven lead changes, the Jaguars dug themselves a hole by turning the ball over 24 times, leading to 27 points for GSU.
