Ames, IA (SportsNetwork.com) - Georges Niang scored a career-high 30 points to power the 14th-ranked Iowa State Cyclones to a 93-82 win over the Oakland Golden Grizzlies in the season opener for both teams.

Niang, who became the 31st player in school history to reach 1,000 career points, added nine rebounds and five assists.

Bryce Dejean-Jones, a transfer from UNLV, had 20 points, 11 rebounds and four assists for Iowa State (1-0), which reached the Sweet 16 last season.

Corey Petros paced Oakland (0-1) with 25 points on 10-of-12 shooting. Kahlil Felder, the reigning Horizon freshman of the year, totaled 23 points and 10 assists.

The Cyclones closed the first half on a 7-0 run to take a 45-38 lead into the break.

Niang and Naz Long nailed back-to-back 3-pointers to put Iowa State up 72-56 with 8:21 remaining. A Dejean-Jones bucket made it 91-71 with about three minutes to play.
