IDAHO VANDALS

Idaho Vandals

Idaho Vandals VS. UC Davis Aggies

UC Davis (6-0) at Idaho (3-3)

GAME NOTES: Looking to build on their best start to a season since the 1912-13 campaign, the UC Davis Aggies will hit the road to face the Idaho Vandals in a non-conference clash at the Cowan Spectrum on Saturday.

UC Davis is 6-0 to start the season, which is the team's best start in more than a century. The Aggies just ran through a three-game home stretch with victories over Utah State, Utah Valley and most recently, San Jose State, 70-56.

Idaho put a stop to a three-game losing streak with its 77-71 victory over Washington State on the road Wednesday night. The Vandals are 3-3 on the season, and return home for this clash before setting out on another two-game road stretch.

Idaho and UC Davis have met four times on the court, with the Vandals owning all four of the victories head to head. The most recent meeting occurred last season, when Idaho took down UC Davis, 80-76.

UC Davis kept the streak going on Wednesday night against San Jose State thanks to a strong offensive performance that included 49-percent shooting from the floor, and an 11-of-25 mark from 3-point range. Josh Ritchart netted 21 points to pace the Aggies, adding in eight rebounds and 4-of-8 shooting from 3-point distance. Corey Hawkins added 20 points in the win, while Darius Graham and Avery Johnson each dished out a team-high four assists.

Hawkins and Ritchart are the two go-to players for the Aggies this season. Hawkins is reprising his role as the team's leading scorer, netting 18.2 ppg with a 4.8 rpg mark and a 52.1 percent shooting touch. Ritchart, who missed a significant amount of time last season due to injury, is netting 12.3 ppg for the Aggies, who as a collective unit are scoring 64.8 ppg this season. The team has prided itself on defense, allowing 54.5 ppg to opponents on just 37.3 percent shooting from the floor.

Idaho made sure Washington State didn't have much of a chance in the second half to complete a comeback, albeit a very small one. The Vandals led the Cougars at the half, 32-31, but the team shot 53.6 percent in the second half to bury the home squad in the non-conference win. Connor Hill and Mike Scott each netted 19 points to pace Idaho, while Scott dished out six assists in the win. Sekou Wiggs netted 12 points, and Bira Seck nearly completed a double- double with nine points and 11 rebounds. The Vandals shot 45 percent from the floor in the contest.

Scott has shown that he's the go-to man, netting a team-leading 14.0 on 51.6 percent shooting from the field. He's followed by Wiggs (12.2 ppg) and Seck (12.0 ppg) in the scoring category. Seck has pulled down a team-best average of 9.2 rpg for the Vandals, who as a team are scoring 75.3 ppg this season, and allowing opponents to net 76.0 ppg on 46.1 percent shooting.

Idaho has a very involved offense, but the team's defense has been seriously lacking when it comes to preventing opponents from scoring. That's not good going against a strong Aggies team that possesses both offensive and defensive weapons, and is unbeaten this season through six games.
