High Point, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - John Brown scored a game-high 23 points as the High Point Panthers secured their first-ever Division I postseason win, taking down the Fighting Hawks of Maryland-Eastern Shore, 70-64, in the first round of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament at the Millis Center.

Off the bench it was Devante Wallace who tallied 19 points and five rebounds for the Panthers (23-9), followed by Lorenzo Cugini who came within a rebound of a double-double as he dropped in 10 points.

Michael Myers and Devin Martin both delivered 13 points for UMES (18-15), while Ishaq Pitt dropped in 10 points and pulled down eight boards during the setback.

UMES led by as many as 15 points less than seven minutes into the contest, but the team shot only 5-of-14 behind the 3-point line in the first half, leaving the Hawks with only a 32-31 edge at the break.

In the second half High Point made a total of only eight field goals and missed all eight chances on the perimeter, but the Panthers managed to connect on 23-of-28 at the free-throw line in order to take over and grab the six- point win.

The hosts forced 18 turnovers and outscored UMES at the charity stripe, 26-8.
