Recap: Harvard vs. Massachusetts

Cambridge, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - Wesley Saunders poured in a game-high 27 points and drained the game-winning bucket in the final minute, as the Harvard Crimson held off the Massachusetts Minutemen, 75-73, in a non-conference clash at Lavietes Pavilion.

Saunders shot 10-of-16 from the field for Harvard (4-1), which has won three straight and remains undefeated on its home floor. Kenyatta Smith tallied 11 points, seven rebounds and three blocks and Siyani Chambers handed out nine assists.

Cady Lalanne and Trey Davis paced five players in double figures for UMass (5-2) with 13 points apiece, while Lalanne added 13 rebounds and two blocks to his performance. Maxie Esho and Derrick Gordon both netted 12 and Jabarie Hinds scored 10 off the bench.

Both teams shot greater than 46 percent from the field in the first half, but UMass took a 38-32 lead into intermission by outscoring the Crimson at the foul line, 9-3.

The Minutemen's lead swelled to nine early in the second half but the Crimson ripped off a 9-0 run to tie the game with 16:31 to play on a Chambers jumper. The teams played within one possession of each other the rest of the way, and after UMass tied the score at 71 on a pair of Davis free throws with 1:13 to play, Saunders put Harvard ahead for good on a three-point play with 38 seconds left. Davis had a chance to win the game for UMass with time running down but his last-second 3-point attempt did not fall.

The game consisted of nine ties and 10 lead changes. Harvard scored 14 points off of 12 UMass turnovers.
