Recap: Georgia Tech vs. Vanderbilt

Atlanta, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - Charles Mitchell knocked down 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets downed the Vanderbilt Commodores, 65-60, in a non-conference clash at McCamish Pavilion.

Mitchell shot 9-of-15 from the field for the Yellow Jackets (8-2), who have won back-to-back games. Marcus Georges-Hunt tallied 14 points, including 5- of-5 at the free-throw line.

Damian Jones and Josh Henderson both netted 12 points for the Commodores (7-3), who lost after winning the previous two. Riley LaChance added 10 points.

The Commodores looked to be the stronger of the two teams in the first half, when they shot 54.5 percent from the field and held the opposition to just a 27.8 percent mark. They led 33-25 at the halfway point.

The second half was a much different story, however, as the visitors dipped to 39.1 percent (including 0-of-7 from 3-point range), while the hosts improved to 51.6 percent. The game was last tied at 53-53 with 3:44 left to play. Just over a minute later, a jumper by Travis Jorgenson put the Yellow Jackets into the lead, and they never looked back, despite leading by no more than six points at any time.

Points off turnovers gave Georgia Tech an edge, as the home team outscored the visitors in that category, 18-6.
