Recap: Georgia Tech vs. Marquette
Orlando, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Matt Carlino scored a career-high 38 points as Marquette held off Georgia Tech, 72-70, in the Orlando Classic on Thursday.
Carlino made 8-of-14 shots from beyond the arc, and Juan Anderson had 12 points and six rebounds for the Golden Eagles (3-2), who will face No. 20 Michigan State on Friday.
Tadric Jackson paced the Yellow Jackets (3-1) with 17 points and Marcus Georges-Hunt chipped in 14 points in defeat.
Back-to-back layups from Anderson and JaJuan Johnson gave Marquette a 14-6 lead just over six minutes into the game.
Georgia Tech, however, rumbled back later with a 6-0 stretch that Robert Sampson capped with a layup to make it a one-point game at 19-18 and took a 28-27 lead on consecutive threes from Quinton Stephens and Chris Bolden.
The Yellow Jackets led 31-29 at halftime, but Marquette led by as many as 11 in the second half.
Jackson buried a 3-pointer to pull Georgia Tech within 69-68 with 13 seconds remaining.
Carlino was fouled off an inbounds pass and calmly made both foul shots.
Georges-Hunt drove in for a layup with 1.6 seconds to play, but Georgia Tech was unable to complete the comeback.
