Atlanta, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - Quinton Stephens drained 6-of-8 from 3-point range for a game-high 22 points, as the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets bested the Georgia Bulldogs, 80-73, at McCamish Pavilion in the season opener for both squads.

Charles Mitchell tallied 20 points and nine rebounds for Georgia Tech (1-0). Marcus Georges-Hunt registered 11 points, five assists and four rebounds, while Demarco Cox added 10 points, eight boards and four blocks.

For Georgia (0-1), Nemanja Djurisic scored 18 points, Marcus Thornton netted 12 and Kenny Gaines poured in 11 off the bench.

The Yellow Jackets got off to a comfortable 42-32 lead at the half after shooting 48.5 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes. Georgia, meanwhile, struggled from the floor at just 31.4 percent.

Georgia Tech held a 10-point lead with under five minutes to play but saw that advantage dwindle to just three in the final minute, but it held on to win by knocking down 6-of-8 at the foul line in the final 26 seconds.

Georgia Tech outrebounded Georgia, 41-36.
