GEORGIA TECH YELLOW JACKETS

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets VS. Charlotte 49ers

Charlotte (6-5) at Georgia Tech (8-3)

GAME NOTES: The Charlotte 49ers and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets will each close out non-conference play Tuesday night as they meet head-to-head at McCamish Pavilion.

Charlotte owns a 6-5 record on the season, and is coming off a very tight 81-78 loss to Big East member Georgetown last time out. The 49ers are 2-2 away from home this season.

Georgia Tech is off to a hot start at 8-3 overall, with a 5-1 mark at home this season. But the Yellow Jackets had a two-game win streak snapped in their last outing (75-61), a road test at Dayton.

These two programs have met a total of eight times in history. Georgia Tech owns a 7-1 all-time series lead, with a victory over the 49ers coming almost exactly a year ago on the road. The Jackets are 3-1 all-time at home against Charlotte.

Georgetown held a seven-point lead over Charlotte at halftime the last time the 49ers took the court, but the visiting squad sliced four points off the Hoyas' lead in the second frame to get to within three points. Ultimately it was too late, as Georgetown held on to win in the closing minutes. Charlotte shot 46 percent from the field in the defeat, and was led in scoring by Keyshawn Woods' 16-point effort off the bench. Braxton Ogbueze chipped in with 12 points, and Mike Thorne Jr. contributed 10 with seven rebounds in 29 minutes of action.

The 49ers have been a very strong offensive team this season through 11 games, netting 76.5 ppg on 45.2 percent shooting from the floor. But the team's defense hasn't been nearly as sharp, as the 49ers are allowing 76.2 ppg to opponents coming into this matchup with an offensively strong Georgia Tech team. Ogbueze leads Charlotte with 13.1 ppg this season. Ogbueze is trailed by Torin Dorn (11.2 ppg), Thorne (10.7 ppg, team-best 7.6 rpg) and Pierria Henry (10.7 ppg, 64 assists) in the double-digit scoring department.

Georgia Tech couldn't keep Dayton from scoring seemingly at will in the team's loss to the Flyers the last time out. Dayton connected on an even 50 percent shooting from the floor, and made 10-of-18 from 3-point range, while the Jackets hit on 39.7 percent shooting in the loss. Marcus Georges-Hunt led the way for the Yellow Jackets with 13 points and eight boards, while Tadric Jackson chipped in 12 points and Charles Mitchell tallied a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Only Georges-Hunt (11.8 ppg) and Mitchell (10.5 ppg) are averaging scoring figures in the double digits this season for Georgia Tech, but the team is still managing a 66.8 ppg mark on 42.9 percent shooting heading into this clash. Meanwhile, the defense is allowing just 62.2 ppg to opponents, thanks to a strong contingent of big men for the Jackets. Mitchell leads the team in rebounding at 7.5 boards per outing, while Demarco Cox (6.5 rpg, 11 blocked shots) and Robert Sampson (6.5 rpg, 11 blocked shots) contribute heavily to the defensive effort.

Charlotte will try to utilize a strong offensive attack against the Yellow Jackets, who have dominated opponents on the glass this season and in the paint altogether. If Charlotte's shots don't start falling early in this road contest, the 49ers could be in real trouble.

Predicted Outcome

Georgia Tech 68, Charlotte 60
