Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - Patricio Garino netted 20 points and led his George Washington Colonials to a 74-59 victory over the Duquesne Dukes in Atlantic 10 Conference play at the Smith Center.

Joe McDonald scored 16 points and Paul Jorgensen added 13 for the Colonials (16-4, 6-1 A-10). Kethan Savage contributed to the victory with nine points and eight assists.

Derrick Colter led Duquesne (6-12, 1-6) with 12 points in the loss. Micah Mason and L.G. Gill each finished with eight points apiece.

George Washington stormed out of the gate and took a 40-18 lead into halftime. The Colonials converted 53.6 percent of their field goal attempts in the opening period, including 9-of-17 from 3-point distance. Duquesne was held to a shooting percentage of just 38.9 in the first 20 minutes.

The Dukes shot much better in the second half as they converted 46.9 percent of their field goal tries. But the Colonials knocked down 41.7 percent of their second half shot attempts, which was enough to help the hosts hold on for the victory.

The Colonials won the rebounding battle (33-26) and had more team assists (17-9) than Duquesne. George Washington also outscored the Dukes from 3-point distance, 36-15.
