George Mason Patriots VS. Manhattan Jaspers

Manhattan (1-3) at George Mason (1-4)

GAME NOTES: George Mason returns to the Patriot Center following a poor showing in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off, as the Patriots host the Manhattan Jaspers on Saturday.

The Patriots lost three games in a four-day span during the in-season tournament, falling to West Virginia, New Mexico and the College of Charleston.

A free throw by Adjehi Baru with 19 seconds remaining was just enough to push the College of Charleston to a 61-60 win on Sunday over the Patriots. George Mason had a chance in the waning moments, but a 3-point attempt by Vaughn Gray missed the mark.

Shevon Thompson recorded a double-double of 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds, while Trey Porter tacked on 11 points in a reserve role and Marquise Moore 10 in the losing cause.

Thompson has been a force on the glass and is pulling down 11.6 rebounds to go with 11.6 rebounds per game. Patrick Holloway is easily the Patriots' best scoring option, as the guard is pouring in 15.6 ppg.

George Mason has assisted on just 42 of its 108 field goals and has turned it over 77 times over the first five games.

The Jaspers have also committed more turnovers than assists (61 turnovers/43 assists) so far, and their 1-3 record is indicative of the early struggles. They shot just 37.7 percent from the field in Sunday's 65-51 loss to Northeastern.

Northeastern came out firing as it shot a sizzling 66.7 percent from the floor and a perfect 8-of-8 at the free-throw line en route to a 44-24 lead at the break. Manhattan never seriously threatened in the second half.

Tyler Wilson posted 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor in the setback. Shane Richards, who was putting up 18.0 ppg over the first three games, was held to seven on 3-of-9 shooting.

Richards still leads the Jaspers with 15.3 ppg, while Emmy Andujar is contributing 11.5 points and a team-best 6.0 rebounds per contest.

George Mason has won all three previous meetings between the programs, including the last meeting, an 81-61 blowout in Fairfax in 2011.

Both teams should be desperate for a win Saturday, and the edge goes to the home team with everything else essentially even across the board.
